2009 Decoy Red Wine by Duckhorn

The Decoy from Duckhorn does an incredible job impersonating a Bordeaux-style blend that costs twice the price. The 2007 vintage is comprised of equal parts Cab and Merlot, with small amounts of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot; the vintage allowed for a long, slow harvest, and it shows here, with balanced, ripe flavors. The wine starts off with an impressive display of red fruit on the nose - cranberry, raspberry - and spice-spiked cherry cobbler. That all carries over to the palate, which is layered with fruit, subtle flavors of orange zest, almond skin and espresso.
