Product Description

The Philipps family cultivates 9 hectares among the famed Himmelreich and Domprobst vineyards overlooking Germany’s majestic Mosel River. Patrick Philipps is quickly becoming a rising star among German producers evidenced by winning “Best of Riesling 2004 & 2012” and Germany’s “Winemaker of the Year 2007” out of 540 eligible wineries. He was also recognized with back to back honors of “Germany’s top 100 winemaking estates” as #43 in 2012 and #48 in 2011 by the German Agricultural Society.

The “Graacher Himmelreich“ or “Heavenly Kingdom of Graach“ consists mainly of weathered medium-depth blue devonian slate soil, combined with a low content of clay providing the perfect “mineral edge” to a crisp Mosel Riesling. Old, ungrafted vines produce lower yields leading to enhanced richness.

In just his first year in the US, Patrick’s wines were among the 10 Best Mosel Rieslings by Eric Asimov of the New York Times. He earned back to back to back Gold Medals and “Top White Wine” with 93, 94, and 93 ratings in the 2010, 2011, 2012 World Wine Challenge respectively. The ‘09 Eiswein was only one of two Wine & Spirits Dec’ 11 Year’s Best.
